Email is not real-time notification. For technicians to know instantly when something changes in GLPI, notifications must appear inside the interface itself.
The problem
In standard GLPI, all notifications go by email. The technician must:
- Constantly switch between GLPI and email
- Filter GLPI emails among dozens of others
- Click the email link to return to GLPI
Result: delayed responses, missed follow-ups, forgotten validations.
Smart Notify (NexTool)
- Bell in the navbar: unread notification counter, visible on any GLPI page
- 11 event types: new ticket, follow-up, task, validation, solution, escalation and more
- Sounds by priority: different audio alert for very urgent vs informational tickets
- Per-user preferences: each technician configures which events to notify and whether to enable sound
- Price: free
- Compatibility: GLPI 10 and 11
Unread
- Visual indicator: marks unread items with highlighting in the list
- Focus: knowing which tickets/follow-ups haven't been viewed yet
- No sounds: purely visual notification
- No preferences: default behavior for all users
- Price: free

Recommendation
If you need internal notifications in GLPI, Smart Notify is the most complete option. Unread is useful if you only want to mark items as read/unread without the complexity of a full notification system.
For notifications outside GLPI, combine with WhatsApp Bot or Telegram Bot.
